Typhoon Chata`an Strikes Guam

Typhoon Chata`an Makes Landfall on Guam July 5, 2002. This was
the scene outside the WFO. By 10 a.m. winds at the WFO peaked at 93 mph
and the storm continued to intensify as it moved northwest, away from
the Island.

During the calm of the storm with the eye overhead, Guam HMT
Jim Bunker was able to make an upper air release as the eye of storm
passed overhead with winds of only 20 mph and light rain and mist.
