A major flood event in southwest Utah in January and a snow pack nearly double that of normal in some river basins led the Governor's Office to launch a flood safety awareness and preparedness campaign, partnering with local media representatives and WFO Salt Lake City. On April 19, 2005, WFO Salt Lake City hosted a press conference to kick off the safety awareness campaign. Photo by Warning Coordination Meteorologist Kevin Barjenbruch.

In an effort to raise public awareness of the importance of office managers and administrative assistants, Debbie Hooper, Administrative Services Assistant (ASA), at NOAA's Paducah, KY, Weather Forecast Office (right) along with Suzanne Warren, International Association of Administrative Professional (IAAP) Chapter President, joins Paducah Mayor Bill Paxton for a Proclamation Signing Ceremony establishing April 24-29, 2005, as Administrative Professionals Week in Paducah. During this week, Administrative Professionals are honored for their commitment to professionalism and expertise in the office environment which keeps operations running smoothly. According to Hooper, "It's not just about filing, typing, and taking memos anymore. The ASA position has really evolved into a multifaceted position that is much more technically-oriented. Additionally, office professionals are taking more of a leadership role in today's workforce." IAAP for the Administrative Professional, which is the equivalent of the American Meteorological Society for meteorologists, is a professional organization of over 700 local, state, and international chapters and 40,000 members, whose goals are to provide information, education, networking, and training opportunities for its members, Debbie is one of 40 very active members in the Paducah-Kentucky Lake Chapter which was chartered in 1966. Hooper is up for election as Kentucky's IAAP Vice President Elect for 2005-2006.
