CNN reporter Chris Lawrence and CNN camera operator Chris Davis observe WFO Little Rock Science and Operations Officer Chris Buonanno (green shirt) monitoring the WSR-88D. On April 29th, a crew from CNN visited WFO Little Rock to provide live coverage of a severe weather event and to tape segments for future use. The CNN crew went to Arkansas originally to tell the story of the Beebe, AR, schools during the tornado outbreak of January 21, 1999. As part of the story, CNN wanted to show their viewers what happens at a WFO during a severe weather event. At the WFO, CNN reporter Chris Lawrence did several live broadcasts throughout the morning, at which time hailstorms were moving repeatedly across the northern half of Arkansas. During the afternoon, the process of issuing a Tornado Watch was taped, including a portion of the conference call with the Storm Prediction Center. CNN indicated these taped segments, plus part of the earlier live coverage, would be saved for use as background footage in future severe weather coverage on the network. WFO Buffalo, NY, has at least one feathered listener. The office got the following note and photo from a NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards customer via e-mail: "We thought that you would like to know that not only do my wife and I listen to your transmissions, but 'Monty' also enjoys your efforts as well. In fact he does his best to talk back to you. He keeps trying to find you in that little box."
