India Sends Meteorologists to Train With NWS: |

As part of a three-year project between the Government of India and the National Weather Service, the Weather Forecast Office in Melbourne, FL, is hosting two meteorologists from the India Meteorology Department (IMD). The IMD meteorologists are there for a training course focusing on operational aspects of tropical cyclone forecasting, hazard communications and inter-agency coordination. NWS Participates in Hawaii Census Workshop: |

Andy Nash, Director of Operations, Honolulu Forecast Office speaks to media, community leaders, and emergency planners, at the U.S. Census Bureau Workshop on "Using Census Data in Emergency Preparedness and Recovery Efforts," held in Honolulu, on June 29, 2006. Doug Marcy, NOAA/Coastal Services Center, left, and Kevin Lynott, OCWWS/Hydrologic Services Division, worked together at the NWS booth in Albuquerque, NM, at the Association of State Floodplain Managers annual conference in June. Marcy and Lynott visited with conference attendees and answered many questions relating to coastal and inland flooding. |
Central Region GIS Team Holds Annual Face-to-Face: |

The NWS Central Region GIS Team had its annual face-to-face meeting at the NWS Training Center in Kansas City, MO, July 25-26, 2006. The team is comprised of 13 individuals from WFOs and RFCs in the Central Region plus a facilitator from Central Region Headquarters. At the meeting the team's yearly charter was reviewed and presentations on on-going and/or completed projects in Central Region were given. Also on hand was a representative from the Office of Science and Technology's Systems Engineering Center, who gave a presentation on GIS activities elsewhere in the NWS. MIC Addresses Rotary Club in Louisville, KY: |

Meteorologist-In-Charge (MIC) John Gordon spoke to the Louisville, KY, Rotary Club on August 3. John’s talk included a description of NWS forecasts and services, outreach programs, and weather safety. John also familiarized rotary club members with NWS Louisville. Around 270 members attended the meeting.

NOAA Support Represented at Mississippi Recovery Expo: |

The Mississippi Recovery Expo in Biloxi on August 10-13 hosted victims of Hurricane Katrina. NOAA was among the dozens of government organizations and corporations with exhibits on storm response and recovery. Gina M.
