NWS CID Transition Plan Appendix C- Follow On Maintenance:

Following the final CID transition, a maintenance program is provided here to facilitate keeping
local and national CID information in agreement. This will consist of two activities plus
additional support actions.

Recurring CID Requirement Reviews: Recurring CID requirement reviews will be conducted
with each office. This should occur approximately once per year to year and a half. It will be
done on an office by office basis and not collectively. Data Management (DM) will generate a
listing of nationally defined products with their CIDs for each office. DM will send this list to
the office CID Focal Points and to the regional CID Focal Points. The office will review the list
and note any additions, deletions or changes. The office, region and DM will coordinate what
changes should be made either locally or nationally and arrange implementation. This will not be
a venue for creating, deleting or changing officially approved products. That is done through the
DRG process. This process will simply ensure that CIP definitions for pre-approved products are
in agreement nationally and locally and eliminate any errors that have crept into the system.

Continuing Compliance Coordination: Between CID requirement reviews maintenance of
CIDs will continue through the existing coordination mechanisms put in place for transition.
DM will continue to monitor for products which are not properly identified in the national
system. DM will continue to send coordination messages as outlined in Appendix C. -
Compliance Coordination. Offices, Regions and DM will coordinate as needed to correct any
CID problems which arise. Any problems or changes which are especially significant or impact
many offices will be coordinated through a national forum such as the Dissemination
Teleconference, the Regional AWIPS Conference Call (RACC) or a dedicated CID conference
call.

Support Actions: DM will review existing documentation and guidance for CID definition.
Where needed this will be updated and additional guidance created. DM will consider
suggestions from offices and regions. Existing and new web based tools and presentations will
be included in this review. The goal will be to have single consolidated web based location
where all CID documentation and tools can be accessed. If and where needed, segregation of
proprietary or sensitive NWS information from non NWS users will be provided.
