EMWIN-N Testing on GOES 11

NESDIS will be testing the EMWIN-N signal on GOES 11.  NESDIS expects to make the currently proposed EMWIN-N signal available for reception from the GOES-11 satellite for most of the period June 12, 2004 to June 30, 2004.  During this period users will be able to test their EMWIN-N era system.  For some portions of some days during this period, the EMWIN signal may have to be removed to allow other tests to be run on the GOES-11 satellite. When these specific times have been identified, they will be posted on this page.

Below are some items that will be of use to anyone wishing to receive the EMWIN-N signal during the test period:

• During testing the frequency will remain at 1690.725 MHz (the current frequency).
• For the test, the EMWIN-N signal is at 9.6 kbps data rate, with BPSK modulation and Rate 1/2 Convolutional + Reed-Solomon (255,223) Forward Error Correction coding. (This may not be the final format for the EMWIN -N signal.)
• The location of GOES-11 during the June 2004 test period will be 96.6 degrees west longitude and it will remain within the normal +/-0.5 degree station-keeping box.
• Schematic of the prototype IF adapter required to down convert the signal into the audio range for input into a sound card  or A/D converter.
