The EMWIN User and Vendor Conference was held at NWS Headquarters in Silver Spring, MD on April 27, 2004. The purpose of this conference was to gather additional input from users and vendors prior to finalizing the EMWIN transition plan for the GOES-N generation satellite. After keynote remarks by Gen. Johnson and Dr. Hartman, the NWS and NESDIS speakers gave a comprehensive view of the present EMWIN program, the requirements imposed by the new generation of GOES satellites and the details of the proof-of-concept receiver developed by NESDIS. The afternoon session, devoted to the comments and questions from the users and vendors, yielded highly positive input. The most often repeated recommendation was for the increase of the EMWIN data rate from 9.6 kbps to 19.2 kbps. Below are the slides presented at the conference. We will also post the conference proceedings/notes as soon as they are compiled.
