EMWIN-N Prototype Update

19.2 Kbps Prototype Receiver Specification Released:

The EMWIN-N prototype receiver specification is now available.  The EMWIN team together with NESDIS has developed  a design capable of receiving both the current and future EMWIN broadcasts.  The EMWIN-N broadcast will be at 19.2 kbps using offset quadrature phase shift keying (OQPSK) modulation and convolutional rate 1/2 plus Reed Solomon (255,223) forward error correction coding.  Tests of the prototype earlier this year were very successful.  A final test using the GOES-N satellite will occur after the GOES-N launch.  EMWIN-N testing will begin approximately one month after a successful GOES-N launch and checkout period.  An exact launch date is currently not available, but should occur early in 2006.
