Important River Flood Levels for the

Roanoke River at Williamston

River Level (ft)	Type of Flooding	Impact of Flood Level
10.00	Minor	Flood stage. Lowlands adjacent to the river flood.
13.00	Moderate	Some secondary roads along the river begin to get flooded. Many acres of farmland will also flood.
15.00	Major	Many secondary roads will be flooded and impassable. Some farm animals will have to be re-located and evacuated. Since Kerr Lake was installed the river has not reached 15 feet.
17.00	Major	many homes on the north and south side of williamston will flood and evacuations will be necssary.
18.00	Major	Numerous roads flooded. Water will threaten residents living near the river or adjacent to tributaries. Water will flood Highway 41 and may begin affect Highway 24 and Interstate 40. Areas many miles from the river will become flooded. Evacuations will be necessary.
20.00	Major	Widespread flooding will occur over much of the county. Many evacuations will be needed along the Northeast Cape Fear and its tributaries. Most roads will become flooded and impassable. Numerous homes and communities near he river will begin to flood.
23.00	Major	Devastating flooding across much of the county will occur. Numerous evacuations will be necessary. Travel will become nearly impossible with numerous roads contywide becoming impassable or washed out.
