- Research on monsoons
- Climate studies
- Mesoscale meteorology
- Satellite meteorology
- Atmospheric chemistry
- Tropical Ocean Global Experiment (TOGA)
- Training and Participation Program.
- Service modernization activities - this will cover collaboration and cooperation in the modernization of both National Meteorological Services.
- Exchange of scientists and trainees between the two sides - with U.S. experts visiting China and vice versa
- Convening of technical workshops in both countries in many of the above Program Areas
