Welcome to the International Activities Office

The International Activities Office (IA) coordinates all international cooperation for the National Weather Service (NWS) and is located within the Office of the Assistant Administrator for Weather Services. Laura K. Furgione, who is the NWS Deputy Director, also serves as the Permanent Representative for the United States with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

IA supports the US Permanent Representative in coordinating US participation in WMO Technical Commissions, Regional Associations, and Executive Council. IA program analysts manage bilateral relations, implement projects, oversee the travel of NWS experts, represent the NWS at international meetings, and coordinate with other federal agencies and non-governmental partners. International Agreements

Coordinates and monitors bilateral agreements for cooperation in meteorology and hydrology between the United States and other countries
 
World Meteorological Organization

Supports the Permanent Representative (PR) of the United States to the World Meteorological Organization of the United Nations and participates in technical commissions
 
Foreign Travel and Visitors
  • Manages NWS foreign travel process
  • Coordinates NWS international training program including Tropical Desk, Africa Desk, and Pacific Desk
