The National Weather Service's Aviation Weather Center and the Federal Aviation Administration have launched an experimental, four-dimensional digital data set. This new Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS) available via the Internet, contains weather observations and forecasts important to the aviation community. Generated by sophisticated numerical models, the ADDS offers a data set from which the private meteorological sector can generate customized aviation products.

In a continuing effort to transfer away from HDS computer dependencies, the National Centers for Environmental Prediction plan to discontinue the Cray ECMWF forecast files generated from files transferred from the HDS computer COM.CED1 files.
On Monday, 3 March, the following Cray files will be deleted:
/com/mrf/prod/ecmwf.yymmdd/ecmwf.yymmdd12.ecmgrb
ecmwf.yymmdd12.ecmgrbi
ecmwf.T00Z.ecmgrb
ecmwf.T00Z.ecmgrbi
The replacement files, fully generated on the Cray, from ECMWF bulletins in /dcom are:
/com/mrf/prod/ecmwf.yymmdd/ecmgrb25.T12Z
ecmgrbi25.T12Z
These files are generated on the Cray 4 and are available in the /com file for one day and the /scom file for 10 days.
