Cold episode conditions strengthened in the tropical Pacific during October. The equatorial cold tongue is now firmly established in the eastern and central Pacific. Monthly sea surface temperatures were 1o C below normal along the equator from 170 East eastward to near 100 West. The latest ENSO advisory with maps updating sea surface temperature, 850 mb winds and outgoing long wave radiation are available on the Climate Prediction Center home page. Official release of WSR 88D Build 10 software has begun in the wake of a successful beta test period. The software is being released first to mountain top and Alaskan 88D sites to mitigate winter weather problems.
