Loss of Mexican Data

The National Weather Service (NWS) has learned that the telecommunications company serving Mexico in the delivery of weather data and products on the World Area Forecast System (WAFS) will terminate the transmission of weather data to and from Mexico on December 25, 1998 because of non-payment of communications charges. The loss of data at the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) may affect forecast model output. The NWS is exploring the receipt of Mexican surface and upper air data by other channels at the same time it encourages the Mexican government to pay charges due the communication provider.
