Paul F. Moersdorf has been selected to be the Director of the NWS National Data Buoy Center located at the Stennis Space Center, MS.
Dr. Moersdorf has a B.S. in Chemistry, an MS in Oceanography, and Ph.D. in Oceanography. He has 21 years experience in the Department of the Navy, 3 years as a teacher at both the university and high school levels, and 3 years as a university research assistant. Since 1994, he has been the Scientific and Technical Director for the Navy's Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC) which provides atmospheric and oceanographic guidance for the Department of Defense. He also served on the Chief of Naval Operations "Vision Team" which produced the road map for the future Operational Meteorology and Oceanography support to the Fleet and the Department of Defense and he was a member of the Independent Review Panel that reviewed the NWS AWIPS program.
Dr. Moersdorf will report for duty on February 28.
