
The objective of the NOAA hurricane research program is the collection of descriptive data required to support analytical and theoretical hurricane studies. These studies are designed to improve the understanding of the structure and behavior of hurricanes with the ultimate purpose being to develop improved methods for hurricane prediction. The 1998 hurricane Field Program Plan describes 10 major experiments planned by the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA. On Monday, September 28, 1998, in Room 120 of the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Department of Transportation (DOT) will host a symposium to continue a dialogue on issues related to the use of weather information to support transportation decision making, safety and efficiency. The symposium which will be attended by numerous government agencies and the private sector has as an objective to plan the implementation of advanced weather services through cooperative partnership programs that involve federal, state, and local governments working with industry and and academic institutions.The private weather industry is cordially invited to attend and participate.
