NWS Partners Workshop


The NWS Office of Meteorology will hold another in a series of action/decision-oriented workshops for our partners in the media, private weather sector, emergency management community, and other federal agencies. The all-day workshop will take place on April 27, 1999, in Silver Spring Maryland, at the NOAA Campus (Building SSMC3, 4th floor conference room). The draft agenda includes zone forecast changes, weather watches by county, a probabilistic convective outlook experiment, and a watch/warning advisory chart. Partners who wish to attend and/or submit agenda items, please contact scott.kiser@noaa.gov.

Workshop on the Use of the WSR-88D in Quantitative Precipitation Estimations


The first workshop on the use of the WSR-88D radar in quantitative precipitation estimations in the intermountain west will be held on Friday June 11, 1999, at the University of Nevada/Desert Research Institute. The focus of the workshop is quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) during both wintertime and summertime storms and the unique problems associated with radar-derived QPE and its validation in the Intermountain west. The FAA has revamped the listing of ASOS/AWOS sites into a more user-friendly format through the use of a clickable U.S. map that gives FAA ASOS/AWOS listings by state in an organized and easy reference format. Go to: http://www.faa.gov/asos/map/map.htm.
