----------- General News:
For those who haven't heard, TIN06-07:Amended (see
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/notif.htm) was sent out around 3/2/2006,
letting us know that NDFD variables RH and Apparent Temperature will
become operational on 3/15/2006 at 14Z (or right about now).
What this means is that the data for RH and Apparent Temperature will
now be available at:
To handle this for "degrib", either:
A) download version 1.77,
B) start the GUI, go to "File->Configure", the "Variables Tab", and select Apparent Temperature and Relative Humidity, and click "operational" in the CONUS, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Guam.
C) manually edit "c:\ndfd\degrib17\bin\ndfd.ini".
----------- News about this release:
I have just finished putting together version "1.77" (last one that I
announced was "1.76.1" on 2/24/2006).
This release focused primarily on reconfiguring for the change in status
of the Apparent Temp and RH, and updating some GRIB1 / GRIB2 tables.
1) Revised the code to recognize local tables of surfaces. NCEP updated
their documents (table 4.5) on Monday to reflect their specific use of
surfaces, and degrib should now be able to handle those.
2) Revised the -log option to allow one to type:
and get a list of all weather strings that degrib had problems parsing.
Degrib's handling of weather is based on the convention specified at
"http://www.weather.gov/datamgmt/doc/GRIB2_encoding.html", and which
I've tried to further summarize at
3) Thanks goes to Claude Desrochers for fixing an error in makefile.sgi.
4) Thanks goes to Chad Shaffer for providing GRIB1 tables from
center=athens. Evidently these should prove useful when working with
5) Modified -Freq option to round before creating the frequency table.
