The Aviation Forecast Preparation System (AvnFPS) is a powerful AWIPS application program that helps forecasters monitor weather conditions and prepare their aviation forecasts. The AvnFPS monitoring capability gives forecasters quick and continuous feedback on TAFs as well as associated observations. This monitoring capability uses a site-configurable, color-coded scheme. AvnFPS includes specialized editors to aid the production of the TAFs. These editors can display TAFs, guidance products, and current observations as both text and graphics. AvnFPS includes tools that help forecasters assess the quality of each forecast before it is issued. These quality control tools can assess the syntax of the forecast as well as compare its meteorological content with a database of historical observational data.
