1. Installation

AvnFPS OB8.3 installation is relatively straight-forward. The entire process of installing AvnFPS OB8.3 should take less than a minute.

The software is delivered as part of AWIPS OB8.3 build on DVD disk. Once mounted, AvnFPS OB8.3 can be found under the /media/cdrecorder filesystem.

File sizes may change, but the approximate values should be as shown above. Ensure that installAVNFPS.sh has execute permissions.

1.1. Unpacking the software

Log on to dx1 as root. This is necessary as you need root privileges on the filesystem where files are installed. Execute the following commands:

[root@dx1-wfo]# cd /media/cdrecorder
[root@dx1-wfo]# script /local/install/installAVNFPSOB83.log
[root@dx1-wfo]# ./installAVNFPS.sh /media/cdrecorder

Enter exit when the installation script finishes. Here is an example of a successful installation.

[root@dx1-wfo]# cd /media/cdrecorder
[root@dx1-wfo]# ./installAVNFPSOB8.3 /media/cdrecorder

The installation script copies your existing configuration files to the format needed for the new release. It shuts down the 3.5 servers and starts the new AvnFPS OB8.3 servers as a convenience. No data is lost. Forecasters should log out and log back in for changes to AWIPS root menu to take effect. Users should be able to immediately start the new AvnWatch GUI.
