Effective on or about July 14, 2011 at 1400 UTC - Two Fire Weather Outlook elements for the CONUS, and the 16 pre-defined NDFD CONUS subsectors, issued by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), will be added to the National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) in operational status. These two elements are:
- SPC Fire Weather Outlook--Critical and Extremely Critical Areas (Days 1-7)
- SPC Fire Weather Outlook--Critical Areas for Dry Thunderstorms (Days 1-3)
A Product Description Document (PDD) for the Fire Weather Outlook elements is available from the Catalog of Operational NWS Products and Services.
As with all NDFD elements, the Fire Weather Outlook elements will be accessible from the NDFD in several ways:
Customers who access the GRIB2 files via any method for one or more domain(s) may need to create or update their procedures and scripts to begin receiving the new Fire Weather Outlook elements from the NDFD.
Detailed information for http and ftp users is included below.
Customers who use the NDFD XML via web service and/or NDFD images via web browser can use the same method they currently use to acquire these elements. For users of the XML service or web graphics, this change will be transparent.
Customers who key on the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) super heading to access NDFD elements, can refer to the updated list of SPC NDFD WMO Super Headings for the Fire Weather Outlook element headings.
