Known Data Problems

Elk River basin at USGS gage 7189000 near Tiff City, Missouri

On January 4, 1998, it is highly likely that the NEXRAD radar precipitation data was affected by 'bright band' contamination, resulting in observed rainfall amounts that are too high. The figure (click here) shows the 24 hour accumulation of the hourly radar-only DPA product.

Participants are encouraged to ignore this rainfall/runoff event for their model calibrations. We will NOT use this event to compute any evaluation statistics.
