National Weather Service Climate
Drought Outlook

The National Weather
Service (NWS)
is the NOAA line
office responsible for climate prediction (forecasts beyond day-to-day
weather prediction). Currently these forecasts extend out to one
year. NWS
is also responsible for the real-time monitoring and assessment
of climate variability, for taking many of the observations necessary
for monitoring and predicting U.S. climate variability, and for
working with customers from national to local levels to ensure that
their forecast needs are met. Overall responsibility for coordination
of climate services rests with the Climate Services Division (CSD)
while research, product development, and production takes place
at the Climate Prediction Center (CPC).
