Bart Hagemeyer
Before joining the NWS in 1981, Bart served six years in the US Air Force where, during his last assignment, he experienced flying into the eye of 30 Pacific typhoons as part of the Air Force's "Typhoon Chasers". Bart received his BS and MS degrees in Atmospheric Science from the University of Missouri. In 1989, Bart became the Meteorologist in Charge of the Weather Forecast Office in Melbourne, Florida. He developed the Melbourne office from the ground up as one of the first new weather offices in a major restructuring and modernization of the NWS and directed the implementation of the first Doppler radar in a marine environment. Bart is a recognized expert in severe weather prediction, hurricanes and tropical meteorology, climate variability, and El NiƱo's impact on Florida. In 2010, Bart received the Tropical Meteorology Award from the Florida Governor's Hurricane Conference.
