Jon Gottschalck
Jon Gottschalck currently works at NCEP's Climate Prediction Center (since 2004) and was recently named Acting Chief of the Operations Branch. Prior to this, Mr. Gottschalck served as CPC Head of Forecast Operations where he was responsible for overseeing day to day routine production and dissemination of CPC's operational forecast products. He also served as the MJO operational lead at CPC and was responsible for leading a team in areas of monitoring, assessing, and predicting the MJO and its associated impacts. He coordinated the weekly production of the CPC Global Tropics Hazards and Benefits Outlook. Mr. Gottschalck earned both a B.S. and M.S. degree in meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1994 and 1996 respectively. After graduation, he was employed at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) from 1997-2001. In this capacity, he worked in the area of boundary layer meteorology, cloud remote sensing, MJO research, and was the university forecast meteorologist and tropical cyclone spokesman. During the period from 2001-2004, Mr. Gottschalck was employed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, Maryland where he worked in the area of land-atmosphere interaction.
