Subject: Discontinuance of the Experimental Cold Advisory for

Newborn Livestock (CANL) Grid Element in the National

Digital Forecast Database (NDFD), Effective May 27, 2014

Effective Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 1200 Coordinated Universal

Time (UTC), the NWS will discontinue the experimental CANL grids

as an element in the NDFD. The original operational CANL for the

eight individual NWS Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) will still

be available from January to May from the WFOs listed below.

The review period for the experimental NDFD CANL grid element

ended May 31, 2013. The feedback did not provide justification

for continuing the experimental NDFD CANL grid. Further, research

is insufficient to confirm NWS can apply the existing algorithms

to sites across the continental United States.
