Subject:  Updated National Marine, Fire, Public and County

Shapefiles as of June 4, 2014

National Weather Service (NWS) marine, fire, public and county

shapefiles will be updated as of 1100 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time

(EDT), 1500 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), June 4, 2014. No

zone/county names or zone numbers are changed.

Partners and users of these national shapefiles should download

the latest versions online at:

http://www.weather.gov/geodata/catalog/wsom/html/marinezones.htm

http://www.weather.gov/geodata/catalog/wsom/html/firezone.htm

http://www.weather.gov/geodata/catalog/wsom/html/pubzone.htm

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/geodata/catalog/county/html/county.htm

The updated national shapefiles correct errors recently

introduced for marine and land areas in Chesapeake Bay and the

Potomac River.  The corrected shapefiles restore changes made

July 15, 2009, in Service Change Notice 09-23CCA:

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/notification/scn09-23aaa_lwx_marine_zones.txt

The effective date of this change is sooner than the minimum

specified by NWS Policy (NWSI 10-1805).  The shorter advance lead

time is necessitated to ensure operational severe weather

products accurately depict affected marine and land areas.

Partners and users should not have to make significant

adjustments to accommodate the change.
