SUBJECT:  Discontinuation of the Rangeland/Grassland Fire Danger

Statement (RFD) for North Dakota by the NWS

Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in Bismarck, ND,

          effective July 1, 2014

Effective Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at 1000 Coordinated Universal

Time (UTC), the NWS WFO in Bismarck, ND (BIS) will discontinue

the production of the RFD for North Dakota because equivalent

fire weather information is available in other fire weather

products.

The Missoula Fire Sciences Laboratory in Missoula, MT, will

issue the North Dakota Fire Danger Statement text and associated

map using the fire danger rating of the National Fire Danger

Rating System (NFDRS).  NWS WFO BIS will include a link on the

WFO BIS website to the NFDRS fire danger issued by the Missoula

Fire Sciences Laboratory.

http://www.weather.gov/bis

This change will improve services for WFO BIS fire weather

partners by using the fire danger rating from the NFDRS, the

national standard for fire management officers of customer and

partner agencies. The NFDRS forecast information map from the

Fire Lab in Missoula is online at:
