          Branch

SUBJECT:  Coded Marine Verification Forecast (MVF) will no

longer be issued effective Tuesday February 3, 2015

Effective Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at 1900 Coordinated

Universal Time (UTC) or 200 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST), the

NWS Weather Forecast Offices (WFO) with marine responsibility and

the national marine centers will no longer issue the Coded Marine

Verification Forecast (MVF). This decision follows a comment

period that began September 8, 2014, and ended October 31, 2014.

The NWS received only a few comments and none with an objection

to terminating the MVF.

The new marine forecast verification system takes all NWS

marine wind and wave forecasts directly from the National

Digital Forecast Database (NDFD). NWS no longer needs to

issue a coded forecast for fixed point locations to measure

performance and thus no longer uses the MVF.

For a complete list of MVF product identifiers and associated

issuing WFOs see the spreadsheet posted at:

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/marine/pns/mvf_ids.xlsx

Users who receive and process the MVF should delete all the WMO

and AWIPS headings listed in the posted spreadsheet above from

their systems on or soon after February 3, 2015 as the MVF will

no longer be issued.
