SUBJECT:   Use of Mixed-Case Text/95 ASCII Character Set in

           National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP)

           Marine Interpretation Message (MIM) Products Effective

           November 30, 2016


Effective Wednesday, November 30, 2016, both the NCEP National

Hurricane Center (NHC) and the Ocean Prediction Center (OPC) will

take the next step in their transition of text products to a mixed-

case text/95 ASCII character set format.This phase of the

transition will apply to the Marine Interpretation Message (MIM)

issued by both National Centers.


The following text products will be affected:

This expansion in the number of available mixed-case text products

is a continuation of the NWS transition to the use of mixed-case

letters and the expanded punctuation/character set:

Use of mixed-case letters in text products will make them easier to

read and allow users to click on links directly rather than

converting them to lower or mixed case.

sample formatting purposes is online at:


If a Critical Weather Day (CWD) prevents this change on November

30, 2016, the mixed-case text format will begin on the next

suitable day.
