Subject:  Amended: Cancelled NGAC Aerosol Forecast System

          Effective April 5, 2016

Effective immediately, the National Centers for Environmental

Prediction (NCEP) will cancel the upgrade of the NOAA

Environment Modeling System (NEMS) Global Forecast System (GFS)

Aerosol Component Version 2 system (NGACv2).

External evaluation of proposed Q2FY16 NGAC upgrades indicated

significant errors in the additional sulfate, particulate

organic matter and sea salt components.  Preliminary

investigation suggested problems with the source functions

(biomass emission data sets) and/or model physics.  The model

development team is working on addressing these issues. The

team has proposed a revised plan for FY16 NGAC upgrades

projected for implementation in August 2016. The current NCO

parallel runs for NGAC upgrades are being suspended. A revised

implementation schedule will be announced in a separate TIN.
