Subject:  Corrected: Transition of the 6km Alaska Forecast

Grids from Experimental to Operational Status

          Effective August 24, 2016

Corrected to remove reference to original comment request Public

Information Statement (PNS) because it only mentions the

original six experimental National Digital Forecast Database

(NDFD) 6km Alaska Region (AR) forecast grid elements. All

current experimental NDFD 6km AR experimental grid elements will

become operational on August 24, 2016. Also corrected to add a

cross-reference to a new public comment request PNS for

experimental NDFD 3km AR grid elements effective concurrently

with the experimental 6km grid elements transition to

operational status.

Effective Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at 1400 Coordinated

Universal Time (UTC), the experimental National Digital Forecast

Database (NDFD) 6km Alaska Forecast Grids will transition to

operational status.

Concurrently, experimental NDFD 3km AR forecast grid elements

will become available for use and comment.

The gridded elements for Alaska will continue to be available

from NDFD in the standard methods.

More details regarding the 6km operational gridded forecast

elements are available in the Product Description Document (PDD)

in the online catalog of NWS products and services.

With this implementation, these forecasts will be available from

NDFD in the standard methods:

- Gridded Binary version 2 (GRIB2) files via Hypertext Transfer

Protocol (HTTP) and File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

- eXtensible Markup Language (XML) via Simple Object Access

  Protocol (SOAP)

- Graphics via Web browser

Operational 6km graphics can be accessed at:

Users who pull NDFD elements in GRIB2 format via the Internet

may need to update their procedures and scripts to access these

elements. The 6km operational forecasts GRIB2 files will be

available online at:

Partners and users who use the NDFD in XML via Web service or

the online graphical NDFD images can use the same methods they

currently use to acquire these elements.  More information about

accessing and using NDFD elements is online at:

If August 24, 2016, is a critical weather day, this

implementation may be postponed. Partners and users will be

notified of that decision via a TIN as far in advance as
