Current and Past Weather Information
Current weather observations from observation stations operated by the
National Weather Service can be obtained from several sources that do
not require computers.
*Hurricane Hotline
Recorded telephone messages are activated when a tropical storm or hurricane
threatens. These messages identify areas affected by the watch or warning,
location of the storm, forecasted movement, wind speeds, and tidal effects.
There is a nominal fee for this service.
Atlantic: (900) 410-NOAA or (900) 410-6622.
Pacific: (900) 410-CANE or (900) 410-2263.
*Marine Weather Radio
Weather observations, charts, warnings and advisories are broadcast on
marine weather radio frequencies. Stations operated by NOAA are part of
an international network of marine weather radio stations. For marine
interests, phone service is operated by BOAT/U.S. Weather Watch at
(900)
933-BOAT--a toll call. You can request a list of stations and frequencies
for the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and Great Lakes from the Superintendent
of Documents, Washington, DC 20418.
*NOAA Weather Radio
The expanded NOAA Weather Radio network of more than 900 FM stations
is operated by the National Weather Service and provides continuous
weather information. Stations operate at seven high FM-band frequencies:
- 162.400 Mhz
- 162.425 Mhz
- 162.450 Mhz
- 162.475 Mhz
- 162.500 Mhz
- 162.525 Mhz
- 162.550 Mhz

*The Weather Channel
This cable television channel continuously broadcasts weather programming
from Atlanta, Ga. An educational segment entitled 'The Weather Classroom'
is broadcast daily, and covers a wide variety of topics. Teachers may
videotape this segment at no charge for use in their classrooms. Climatological Information
