Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Services (AHPS)

AHPS is an NWS program that allows NWS to test and introduce new hydrologic products and services across the country. The goals of AHPS are to:

  • Produce more accurate hydrologic products using advanced forecast models
  • Provide more specific and timely information on fast-rising floods with increased lead time
  • Create easier to use products in new formats
  • Create information useful in assessing risk to flooding including forecast probability
  • Provide accurate products with forecasts for the next 2 weeks and beyond
  • Increase the speed and methods in which NWS sends its hydrologic products
  • Expand outreach and engage partners and the public in all aspects of hydrologic product improvement.
