Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Brown proudly stand near the newly placed sign given to the Yazoo County Emergency Management Agency by Jeff Graschel, Service Coordination Hydrologist at LMRFC, Marty Pope at WFO Jackson, MS and Al Goodman, NFIP Coordinator with the State Floodplain Management Bureau of MEMA.

The sign was placed in an area where flood waters crossed the road in the spring of 2008 and 2009.  The Browns live on Satartia Road near Satartia, MS.  They know so well what it is like to have flood waters surround your home and prevent you from accessing your home as well.   Bernice McGinnis requested District V Road Crew members to place the sign in this very much needed location to let motorist know that it is better to turn around than to suffer the consequences of flood waters.

Just beyond the curve where the Browns are standing, the flood waters crossed the road and continued for about a mile making driving through very, very dangerous.  So, when flood waters are present and you see this sign “TURN AROUND – DON’T DROWN.
