Weather Radio Improvement Program (WRIP)-2

The NOAA National Weather Service (NWS) currently provides forecasts and weather information, weather watches, warnings and other emergency messages to the public and emergency managers through the NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) and Weather Wire Service (NWWS) networks. The primary purpose of these systems is to reliably deliver All-Hazard emergency warnings to those people most immediately at risk, with sufficient lead time to allow them to take action to reduce the likelihood of property damage, injury or death.

The objective of the National Dissemination Network (NDN) Weather Radio Improvement Program (WRIP)-2 is to update and modernize current National Weather Service dissemination systems to meet current and future stakeholder missions, requirements and needs. As part of the overarching NDN program, the WRIP-2 has been initiated to evaluate, update and modernize NOAA Weather Radio and Weather Wire Service dissemination systems.
