HazCollect: Training


HazCollect Principles and NWEM Best Practices

Before applying for HazCollect access, all prospective applicants must satisfactorily complete the training course HazCollect Principles and Non-weather Emergency Messages Best Practices.  The course is comprised of five chapters including:

  1. HazCollect Overview
  2. NWEM Message Types
  3. NWEM Data Elements
  4. Warning Best Practices
  5. Implementing HazCollect
The training is self-paced and is estimated to take two to three hours to complete.  A series of Job Aids is included to assist you with your HazCollect implementation.  A brief final test is required to demonstrate proficiency.
 
The training is provided in three formats – online, ZIP file for local installation, PDF file for printable version -- all hosted from the MetEd Learning Management System, operated by the Cooperative Program for Operational Meteorology, Education and Training (COMET ®) Program.  The final test must be completed online, and instructions for accessing the test and reporting results are provided within the training.

Using DMIS Tools for HazCollect NWEMs

For DMIS Tools users, DMIS Tools training information and materials are available on the FEMA Disaster Management website under DMIS Tools Training.  A two part training series concentrates on the essentials for deploying and using DMIS to author and transmit NWEMs:

The DMIS Tools NWEM Authoring Job Aid, (PDF, 224 KB) is intended to serve as a quick reminder of the steps required to author and post an NWEM, for those who have previously reviewed the training or Operators Guide.

Training opportunities will be offered and announced on the FEMA DM website.
