Aircraft Operations Center

AOC is a center of the NOAA Marine and Aviation Office. The airplanes and helicopters of the AOC are flown in support of NOAA's mission to promote global environmental assessment, prediction and stewardship of the Earth's environment. NOAA's aircraft operate throughout the United States and around the world; over open oceans, mountains, coastal wetlands, and Arctic pack ice. These versatile aircraft provide scientists with airborne platforms necessary to collect the environmental and geographic data essential to their research.

Marine Operations Center

NOAA operates a wide assortment of hydrographic survey, oceanographic research, and fisheries research vessels. These vessels are operated by NOAA Marine and Aviation Operations. Logistic support for the vessels is provided by the appropriate marine operations center or, for vessels in Woods Hole, Charleston, Pascagoula, San Diego, and Honolulu, by Port Captains located in those ports.

NOAA Diving Program

NDP is headquartered at the NOAA Diving Center in Seattle, WA. The NDP trains and certifies scientists, engineers and technicians to perform the variety of tasks carried out underwater to support NOAA's mission. With more than 400 divers, NOAA has the largest complement of divers of any civilian federal agency.

NOAA Small Boat Program 

The purpose of the Small Boat Program is to promote small boat safety through risk management.

Teacher at Sea Program

TAS enables teachers from elementary school through college go to sea aboard NOAA research and survey ships to work under the tutelage of scientists and crew. The program has enabled more than 360 teachers to gain first-hand experience of science at sea.

NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps

NOAA Corps produces officers technically competent to assume positions of leadership and command in NOAA and DOC, and in the Armed Forces, during times of war or national emergency. Officers are trained for positions of leadership and command in the operation of ships and aircraft; in the conduct of field projects on land, at and under the sea, and in the air; in the management of NOAA observational and support facilities; as members or leaders of research efforts; and in the management of various organizational elements throughout NOAA.
