Subject: Soliciting Comments until September 30, 2014, on

Experimental Enhanced Format Red Flag Warnings (RFW)

NWS is accepting comments through September 30, 2014, on an

experimental, bulleted Red Flag Warning (RFW):

www.nws.noaa.gov/survey/nws-survey.php?code=expbulletedRFW

Starting Friday, November 1, 2013, at 0600 Coordinated Universal

Time (UTC), five NWS Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) will issue

an experimental bulleted RFW throughout the 20132014 fire

weather season:

Billings, MT (BYZ), Western Region

Albuquerque, NM (ABQ), Southern Region

El Paso, TX (EPZ), Southern Region

Midland/Odessa, TX (MAF), Southern Region

Lubbock, TX (LUB)/Southern Region

The experimental RFW format moves the weather threat, reason for

issuance and affected area from the main headline to several easy

to read bullets immediately below the headline. Using this bullet

format of the RFW, NWS can simplify the headline while still

providing essential details about the threat. These changes will

make the RFW easier to read and understand.

An example of the experimental bulleted RFW and the Product

Description Document (PDD) are available online at:

http://products.weather.gov/PDD/Enhanced%20RFW%20Bullet%20Format%20-%20National%20PDD_9_13.pdf

At the end of the comment period, NWS will review comments to

determine if this product should be made available nationwide.
