SUBJECT:  Updated: Continuing experimental status in offshore

and high seas gridded forecasts from NHC TAFB and

offshore gridded forecasts from OPC in the Pacific

          Basin through December 31, 2018

Update to add links for the experimental gridded forecasts

and to extend comment period through December 31, 2018

The NWS National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP)

Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch (TAFB) will continue to

provide gridded forecasts of five marine weather elements to

the National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) on an experimental

basis for its Pacific Basin offshore waters and high seas

forecast areas of responsibility.

The NCEP Ocean Prediction Center (OPC) also will continue to

provide gridded forecasts of five marine weather elements to

the NDFD on an experimental basis for its offshore waters in

the Pacific basin. TAFB began production of the experimental

NDFD grids on March 20, 2013, for all of its offshore and high

seas Area of Responsibility (AOR). OPC began producing

experimental offshore grids on May 1, 2013; experimental high

seas forecasts grids for the Pacific Basin are under

development.

The marine weather elements that will remain experimental in the

Pacific Basin from TAFB and OPC are 10-m wind speed, 10-m wind

direction, 10-m wind gusts, significant wave heights, and marine

hazards. The experimental gridded forecasts can be found at:
