SUBJECT: Updated: Soliciting Comments until April 30, 2018, on

the Prototype Winter Storm Severity Index (WSSI)

Updated to add Little Rock, AR

The NWS is soliciting comments on a Winter Storm Severity Index

(WSSI) prototype until April 30, 2018. Prototype WSSI values

will be produced for 20 NWS Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs)

across the contiguous 48 states.

The purpose of the WSSI prototype is to provide NWS forecasters

and partners with an indication of the severity of winter

weather hazards and the potential for related societal impacts.

The WSSI prototype does not depict official warnings and should

always be used in context with official NWS forecasts and

warnings.

The WSSI prototype is available for comment via a link from 20

select NWS Weather Forecast Offices:
