Subject: New Fire and Public Forecast Zones and Boundary

Changes for Horry County in northeast South Carolina

         Effective December 5, 2017.

Effective Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at 1800 Coordinated

Universal Time (UTC), 100 PM EST, Horry County, SC, existing

fire and public forecast zones will be split. The Inland-Horry

zone will be divided into new Northern Horry and Central Horry

zones. The new zones are shown below in Table 1.

A graphic depicting the Horry County old and new public and fire

zones configuration is online at:

  http://www.weather.gov/media/ilm/HorryZones.pdf

This zone will be split to improve forecaster flexibility

regarding long-fused weather events and delineate the more

populated central and coastal areas from the northern area. This

change will result in more geographically precise forecast,

watch and warning products for the general public and will

enhance web-based graphical product consistency and appearance.

These zone changes require partners and users to take

appropriate action to receive the new zone products using the

Universal Generic Code (UGC) zone code format (Z) listed in

Table 1. Products affected by these changes are listed in

Table 2.
