SUBJECT:
Corrected: Changes in Offshore Waters Marine Zones
For the Caribbean and Southwest North
Atlantic
and the Gulf
of Mexico Effective April 3, 2012
NWS created an
Offshore Marine Waters shape file for the Gulf of
Mexico,
Caribbean, and Atlantic waters that incorrectly
eliminated the NWS Eastern Region (ER) coastal marine
zones,
20-40 nautical
miles (nm) from shore, from the shape file. These
20-40 nm zones
extend from Weather Forecast Office (WFO)
Charleston, SC,
marine area of responsibility northward to WFO
Caribou,
ME, marine area of responsibility. This incorrect
shapefile was implemented operationally on April 3,
2012.
The corrected
zone map shape file is available for download from
the following web site:
www.nws.noaa.gov/geodata/catalog/wsom/html/marinezones.htm
NWS ER WFOs issue
short term warnings for these 20-40 nm zones.
For long term
warning and forecast purposes, these areas are
shared with the NWS Ocean Prediction Center (OPC)
offshore marine
zones:
