Subject: Discontinuance of Experimental Extreme Cold
Warnings
Effective December 3, 2012
Effective Monday, December 3, 2012, at 1200 Coordinated Universal Time
(UTC), experimental Extreme Cold Warnings (ECWs) will be discontinued by the
NWS Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) that were issuing them using the
Non-Precipitation Weather Product

Since January 18, 2011, the NWS
has been evaluating the usefulness of the ECW product:

Due
to a lack of events over the past two cold weather seasons
and because other projects are taking shape which will incorporate the issues
this experiment was to address, it was decided to end the experiment.
Partners and users of the
discontinued experimental ECW listed in Table 1 can receive Wind Chill Watches,
Warnings and Advisories via the Winter Storm Warning (WSW) product using NWS
Valid-Time Event Codes (VTEC) WC.A, WC.W and WC.Y, respectively.
