Subject: Extension of Time Period of Text Marine Forecasts
Effective October 15, 2013
Effective Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 200 PM Eastern Daylight
Time (EDT) or 1800 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) the NWS
Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in Buffalo, NY, will include
forecasts through Day 5 on all its text marine products.
At present WFO Buffalo’s Nearshore Marine Forecast extends four
12-hour periods, forecast for the St. Lawrence River three
12-hour periods, and Open Lake Forecast for Lake Ontario
through Day 5.
On October 15, WFO Buffalo will extend its Nearshore Marine
Forecast (NSH) and Forecast for the St. Lawrence River (GLFSL) to
include a full 5-day forecast.
These changes will allow WFO Buffalo to provide a consistent
forecast between text products and digital marine graphical
products. This change also will make the NSH and GLFSL
consistent with the text Open Lake Forecast for Lake Ontario.
There will be no changes to marine zone boundaries, names or
Universal Geographic Codes.
