SUBJECT:  Changes to the format of the Fire Weather Planning

Forecast (FWF) for Weather Forecast Office Grand

Junction (GJT), CO, Effective April 1, 2014

Effective Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at 1200 Coordinated Universal

Time (UTC), the NWS Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in Grand

Junction (GJT), CO, will include the forecasted mixing height,

transport winds, and smoke dispersal information within the

Colorado portion of the Fire Weather Forecast (FWFGJT), and the

forecasted mixing height, transport winds and clearing index

within the Utah portion of FWFGJT.

NWS will discontinue the WFO GJT Smoke Management Forecast

(FNUS75 KGJT/ SMFGJT) effective April 1, 2014.

These changes improve services for WFO GJT fire weather partners

and users by eliminating the SMF, a product rarely used, and

including smoke management information within the FWF, a product

accessed daily by most fire weather partner agencies and users.
