SUBJECT:  Implementation of Responsive Web Design Enhancements to

          weather.gov Website, Effective May 13, 2014

Effective Tuesday, May 13, 2014, the NWS will implement responsive

web design enhancements to the NWS website and its related and

linked point forecast pages.

http://weather.gov

These enhancements improve the usability of these sites on devices

with reduced size displays and touchscreen interfaces, such as

smartphones and tablets.

Using web page techniques known as responsive and progressive

enhancement, users of a broad range of devices such as smartphones,

tablets and desktops, will be able to use our pages more easily.

NWS will preserve basic content and functionality  across these

platforms, while features requiring more display area are

progressively introduced for larger displays. A live preview

of these enhancements, viewable on mobile and tablet devices,

is online at:

http://preview.weather.gov

For example, access to local forecasts is provided via an easily

usable city, state or ZIP code lookup box. In addition, these

allow users to navigate navigation menus on touch screen devices.
