SUBJECT: Elimination of the Delineation of 5 inches or More

Of Rainfall on the WPC Excessive Rainfall Graphic

         Effective June 9, 2014

Effective June 9, 2014, at 1500 UTC, the WPC Excessive Rainfall

chart will no longer depict areas where precipitation will

exceed 5 inches. This information is available on other WPC

Quantitative Precipitation charts. The 5-inch threshold is

arbitrary and not necessarily significant since smaller amounts

can be sufficient to cause flash flooding. It also adds clutter

to the charts. The charts will continue to outline areas where

rainfall is expected to exceed flash flood guidance.
