Subject: Changes to the Tsunami Threat Message effective

         Wednesday, October 1, 2014


Effective Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at 0000 Coordinated

Universal Time (UTC), the NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center

(PTWC) in Honolulu, HI, will eliminate the use of alerting terms

"watch" and "warning" in its WEPA40 PHEB Tsunami product for the

Pacific and instead provide rapid notification of potential

tsunami threats. This change is being made at the request of

member states of the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation

System to improve the service. 


PTWC will issue Watch/Warning/Advisory products under different

headers for U.S. domestic locations which were formerly provided

tsunami alerts exclusively through the WEPA40 PHEB product. For
