Subject: Corrected: New Fire and Public Forecast Zones and

Boundary Changes for the Mountains of West Virginia

         Effective November 1, 2016

Corrected to remove the Hurricane Local Statement (HLS) from

Table 2: WFO RLX Products Affected by Changes

Effective Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at 1800 Coordinated

Universal Time (UTC), 200 PM EDT, the NWS Weather Forecast

Office (WFO) in Charleston (RLX), WV, will make several changes

to existing fire and public forecast zones for the mountains of

West Virginia.

Six existing fire and public zones that currently make up the

Mountains of West Virginia will split into 12 separate zones

along the 2,500 foot elevation. The zones will be split into

northwest and southeast. The new zones are shown below in Table

1 below. Affected products are shown in Table 2 below.

In all cases above, both fire and public zones are identical to

each other in zone name, zone number and geographic extent.

A graphic depicting these changes is online at:

  http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/public/zone/rlx16.jpg

These zones are being changed to improve warning accuracy in

high elevation variations with respect to populated areas.

These changes will result in more geographically precise

forecast, watch and warning products for the public and will

enhance web-based graphical product consistency and appearance.
